Be's helpful guide:
Hi! I just wanted to say hello again and help you navigate your way to choosing the right DofE course.
You may be a teenager, a parent or guardian. Either way, I'm here to help and if in any doubt, please don't hesitate to use the 'Contact Page' and get in touch directly.
Work through the following questions to help you choose the right course:
1. What level skill are you doing? Bronze/Silver or Gold?
This should be easy to answer! On to the next question....
2. How long would you like to do your skill for - 3/6/12/18 months?
This choice will be dictated by the award level you are doing and you will be able to choose the length accordingly. If you are unsure, scroll down the page to find out what DofE say.
Typically a bronze student will start with a 3 month course. If you decide you are enjoying it, you can easily extend to 6 months.
Each course is 3 months long, so you just keep adding a new course for the length of skill you wish to have.
I am delighted to offer a 10% discount if you book all your courses together. It saves me admin time! Email Be here for discount code.
For ease of booking multiple courses to make use of the discount, please use this link:
MULTIPLE COURSE BOOKING PAGE (Note: this page is being created right now, please email Be for urgent multiple bookings!)
3. Would you like to do a cheaper 'Do it yourself (DIY)' course or do you need an Approved Activity Provider (AAP)?
The DIY option:
Going down the 'DIY' route is a very useful way to save some money, which I am all for!
If you are doing your bronze award and have a neighbour or other appropriate adult who does not live at home to assess your cooking, you may not need an Approved Activity Provider.
This is a really easy way to run your course and is cheaper, but please check with your school DofE coordinator before purchasing your course.
A useful self-assessment sheet download is available on the course portal to help you log your cooking successfully.
If you would like a DIY course, CLICK HERE to choose and book your course (£55).
4. Why would I need an AAP?
The DofE has approved that all Be in the Kitchen opportunities meet DofE sectional requirements.
- Many families choose this option as it takes away the stress and provides an interactive and supportive way for teenagers to learn a new skill.
- By choosing an AAP, you can ensure that your course is stress-free as it will provide the structure to complete the skill in a timely manner.
- When your course is complete, the paperwork is dealt with by 'Be in the Kitchen' and uploaded to the DofE portal.
- Be in the Kitchen will always be on hand to support you along the way.
5. What happens when I have booked my course?
Receive confirmation and welcome email.
Receive log-in details and online access to the course.
Find the 'Course Instruction Guide' which will provide everything you need to know about how to do your course.
Have fun and enjoy learning how to cook new recipes!
Thank you for reading this!

What the parents have to say...
Dear Be, Thank you for empowering and inspiring Lola to cook nutritious plant-based meals at home! She makes herself delicious lunches for school and has taken over making dinners for the family most nights of the week. Lola is a ???? chef - from meal planning to shopping at the farmer's market, from chopping and spicing to baking and plating, her meals are prepared with know-how and love. Your DofE course has given us yet another reason why we are the luckiest parents in the world to have Lola for a kid! Kind regards, Liza
Thank you so much Be. I personally have really enjoyed watching her create and learn through this course. The recipes were varied and delicious and the delivery of the course was simple and clear. Wishing you a lovely summer ahead. Very best wishes, Catriona
Thank you soooo much, Be, for your support and in particular for the lightning quick response on this final section. Matthew has learnt loads (and I have also benefited as my cooking skills are very limited!). This has provided the structure and inspiration he needed. I've been recommending you to a number of Mums I know :-) Best wishes for a fabulous summer. Kind regards Helen
Success stories from DofE cookery students
Thank you so much for my feedback I really enjoyed it the recipes you sent me, they were really tasty but relatively simple to remember, i think they will be useful if I go to university or if i’m home alone for awhile to make. I’d say the banana protein pancakes were definitely the most fun to make as-well as the most tasty. Today my Dad made the granola again he really enjoyed it!
Thank you from Jamie
Hi Be!! ..... thank you so much, it has been so much fun to cook these recipes. Thank you! Have a great Easter and hope you are well. Lily
Hello, Thank you so much for sharing this with me! I loved this class and it has really developed my skills in the kitchen. Kind Regards, Mia
Thank you so much for your continued support over these 6 months. I've enjoyed your recipes immensely and will continue to cook! Best wishes, Lola
The Official DofE Guidance:
To avoid confusion, here are the Duke of Edinburgh guidelines, from their website, for doing your Bronze, Silver or Gold skills:
There are three levels of programme you can do which, when you’ve successfully completed them, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Sectional activities need to average an hour a week, with the first and last activities being the full section duration apart. At Bronze level, it is typical for activities to be weekly. For longer sections at Silver and Gold (potentially at Bronze, depending on the activity), it can help for the activity to be longer (in terms of hours per session) but less often.
Skills section: 3 months (+ an optional 3 months)
You also have to spend an extra three months on one of the Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections. It’s your choice which one and, though you can change your mind later, you should decide which section you want to do for longer at the beginning..
Physical and Skills sections: One section for 6 months and the other section for 3 months
Physical and Skills sections: One section for 12 months and the other section for 6 months
NOTE: If you jump in with the silver or gold award, there will be an additional requirement, details can be found on the DofE website under 'timescales'.
Watch the video below to help you choose the course that is perfect for you!
If you are not sure whether you would like to cook for longer than 3 months, that is fine.
Just see how you get on and if you are enjoying it all, then you can add on another course when you are ready.
Just let me know before I sign you off!
If you have any questions at all, just book a call or send me an email,
I'd love to help you join my Virtual kitchen!
Can't wait to see you soon! Be x
